Not One, but TWO Kickass (Fan-made) Green Lantern Trailers

Using Photoshop, After Effects and Final Cut Pro, Jaron Pitts has created an awesome trailer for a Green Lantern movie starring Canadian cult-fave actor Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity, Castle) as Hal Jordon.

Jaron very cleverly mined the following properties for clips to include: Planet of the Apes, Serenity Trailer, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Stardust Trailer, The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring, Firefly, Dragonball Evolution Trailer, Galaxy Quest, The Fountain Trailer, Superman Returns Trailer, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Smallville, Justice League TAS, GI Joe Trailer, Contact, Star Trek Enterprise, Star Wars Episode III, The Mutant Chronicles Trailer, Iron Man, Star Trek Trailer, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Cutscene, The Chronicles of Riddick, Kamen Rider, Bedtime Stories, MIB 2, Escape from Witch Mountain Trailer, The Matrix Revolutions, The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian and White Noise 2.

The music is “Forces of Destiny” and “Freedom Fighters” by Two Steps from Hell.

At the time of this writing has almost 850 000 views. He also took a few seconds plus the final logo from Mike Afford’s amazing Green Lantern trailer (embedded right below) which was was created using Cinema 4D. There some artworking in Photoshop, with post production work done in After Effects CS3, grading with Magic Bullet ‘Looks’. And yes, Mike uses the very popular Lux Aeterna as his theme music. As of this writing, it has garnered more than three quarters of a million views.

Digipendence.com is back up after some confusion between two domain name registrars.

My registrar of choice sold itself to a very annoying company. I refuse to do business with them owing to their massive disorganization so I’ve been transferring my domains away from them as they come up for renewal and sooner when my budget allows.

They failed to send me a renewal notice for digi, but I was on top of it as I had no intention of paying them for another year. I was able to transfer the domain, but it ended up parked, but not registered. Sheesh.

Each company blamed the other, but I wasn’t really interested in the whole fault thing. I just wanted the situation resolved and digipendence.com back online, ESPECIALLY since I had just crafted a large update!

Posts that made it to Machinifeed right after the domain problem happened - but probably couldn’t be viewed (my apologies) - include:

Steve Elington on the Video Features of the New iPhone 3Gs

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard that Apple has a new-new gen iPhone aka iPhone 3Gs with the “s” standing for speed (features, tech specs).

When it comes to mobile devices of this variety, I’m a hardcore Windows Mobile girl - they don’t call me the ‘Pocket PC Princess’ for no reason - BUT I’m a journalist and filmmaker, so the new video features really have me paying attention to the 3Gs, and I was delighted to find a detailed post by someone who actually is a serious filmmaker.

Yesterday, indie helmer Steve Ellington posted a great article called: “Everything You Wanted to Know About iPhone 3GS Video” in which he does a terrific rundown of the video shooting capabilities of this new iPhone. He shot the following video to illustrate his points, and he also wrote a comparison to his Flip MinoHD, and follows that up with a iPhone 3Gs ‘wish list’ - one very important feature missing from the 3Gs is HD.

On a side note, I’ve been hearing a lot about user frustrations over the lack of battery life of iPhones. Here’s a helpful review of an interesting product called Mophie Juice Pack Air, ‘an add-on battery pack that doubles as a case’ (PDF manual). Currently it’s available in white, black, and purple, but sadly, not a bright blue. Maybe that colour will be available by the time i get an iPhone, or a next-gen video-capable iPod Touch.
